I didn't have an agent in NYC. Thanks though.

I mean by ruin your relationship with a NYC agent is he can call you and say can you be in an audition tomorrow? And you have to be there. You have to find a way there. And what if you can' t. And you do this three times. Can say you made a bad relationship and possible the word go around.

We New England actors do not need an agent at all. We got to make market our own self. You need to know who and what you are selling. We got to do our own work. When we can get notice and get paying gigs that's when we New England actors get head turn. That's why I think New England Actors has an edge. A note if you do decide to get an Agent in NYC you have to LIVE there because you can ruin your relationship. You just need to market yourself and  keep selling.

India is right when she says you should go in and meet with the agencies. I'm with Model Club and when I met with Andrew he was very upfront and honest with me about what kind of frequency of work I could realistically expect to get called in to audition for.  You should meet with both agencies and see which one you think is best for you if any.

I just want to reiterate what Matt Bouldry of CP Casting has already pointed out.  Casting Companies and Modelling Agencies are different.  The Casting Companies do not contract with actors, they cast jobs on behalf of the production companies.  You do NOT pay them anything.  Modelling Agencies contract with an actor or a model and promote them to the Casting Companies and others.  As their contracts state, Modelling Agencies can and usually do take a portion of your pay. I hope this is a helpful clarification.

Alright, so forget about my flippant use of the wod "agency" but the fact is you do have to sign with Model Club and it is exclusive which means you can't work with other agencies. Everyone has different experiences with agencies and casting companies. It depends on the type of work they have that week, month, etc on if you'll get called in for something. Some people love CP and dislike Boston Casting or vice versa because their "type" gets more work at one over the other. I've heard good and bad about Model Club, I didn't feel it was a great move for myself because there are a lot of girls in my age group and type that are represented by them. Dealing with an agency is something you want to do if you think it can ultimately benefit you to do so and they don't have 100 other people that look just like you in their roladex. You simply won't get called in as often. Jeff is most likely an interesting type which is why he gets called more often than some of the 20somethings I know that are actors in the area that never get called in. The best thing you could do is go and meet them, consider your options and then make a decision. Worse case if you don't think it's for you, best case is you get a couple phonecalls a month to go audition or do a go-see, and it'll be great

Two contacts in NH you should get to know as well are NEMG (New England Model Group)  and Between Gigs Casting (John Campanello).

All best wishes.

Thanks so much you guys, this is really helpful information! I've worked on a project through Boston Casting and have submitted info to C.P. for some projects but just want to give myself an extra "oomf" while I'm restarting from being a NY actor to a NE actor.

Holly, I'm with Model Club. You don't get get fewer opportunities being with them, you get more. They are in contact with all the casting agencies such as CP and Boston Casting, but also they have exclusives plus occasional out of state. You'll also have print casting opportunities. There is really no downside other than Model Club getting a fee out of your end most of the time (occasionally the fee will get paid by the client).
