Hi Curtis!

I have been following the thread and I wanted to chime in on something.  The P2P sites (V123 and Voices) are a very good resource for work.  I got a national job (Haier) via V123!  I understand that it seems like paying to audition doesn't make sense but it really gives you an outlet to find work if you don't have an agent.  In addition, it's great practice.  Hope you don't mind hearing my opinion...

Can't hurt to inquire, but most ad agencies, around here at least, seem to rely on the master demos--1 minute or less samples from individual male and female demos--put together by the major recording studios (e.g., Soundtrack), so those studios would be my first stop. That will also tell you whether they regard your work as sufficiently high caliber to be included on their roster.

any network advice? should i send demot advertising agencies? voice 123 seems a bit bogus. I just dont see the pay to audition thing as right.

Mea culpa, mea culpa, mea culpa!  With Easter Sunday approaching, it's especially appropriate that I don my hairshirt and confess to a multitude of sins, especially my latest, utterly embarrassing oversight in not mentioning the Lau Lapides Co. and their resident audio guru Mike Jablon as a terrific place for v/o demos--among many other wonderful services and programs. Skilled, experienced and fun people to work with: www.laulapidesstudio.com

(This has been an unpaid political announcement) ;-)

Mea culpa, Mea culpa.

Hi Curtis--Ain't easy. My experience is that you certainly can't rely on casting agencies alone for v/o work--you have to market yourself (especially in Boston where we don't have an agent system to any great degree). And of course with digital technology the former boundaries of time and space have largely disappeared, allowing more folks to have home studios and thus making the competition for v/o work virtually global and 24/7. If you're in the union (the new SAG-AFTRA), you may be interested in joining our organizing efforts--for more work with good wages and benefits in general.

How do we get mor VO work in Boston- rarely get auds. through Boston Casting...

Posted by Paul Horn on April 5, 2012 at 5:48pm

Yes, Ken and Jordan do fine work (and a fair amount of casting).  Another person to consider is Sonny DuFault, a very talented engineer and v/o talent himself.

Boston area voice-actors, I heartily recommend Chart Productions for your VO demo. Ken Carbury and Jordan Rich are seasoned VO pros in their own right and will produce a VO demo of "national" quality for you.
