Hi Angie,
I am non union. Usually working any film the rate will be 64/8hrs. If you are eligible for SAG or AFTRA and are interested in doing BG work from personal experience I suggest you join SAG if you want to work on film as BG. It's the best way to make money. Unless you do not want your union status to hurt other work like short films and indies.
I hope this is helpful! BG work in Boston is a lot of fun though. You get to meet lots of different people even if the money is pennies.
