  • Natasha Hatalsky

    Hi, everyone!

Has anyone here ever had to learn a very accurate Boston accent? I need to find a dialect coach who can teach this very precisely, and though I've found a ton of folks who help actors get *rid* of a Boston accent, I haven't found someone excellent to teach it yet.

Thanks for any help you can give!!!

  • Jack Burk Goldman

Natasha, that's easy, just flatten all your words ending in "ar" and add a "ya" to all words ending in "er". Please note that I was born and raised in the Bronx.

  • David R. Reid

My understanding is (based on radio commercials) that all you have to do is drink Dunkin Donuts coffee, and you accent immediately changes.

  • Mary Jane Brennan Sangiolo

David R. Reid, that us the best comment ever (pronounced eva)
  • Natasha Hatalsky

:D Gosh, I sure wish it was that easy! I would go out and get myself some DD joe today!

I'm looking for the subtleties in addition to the bigger stuff...the minor tweaks in vowel pronunciation, etc., and also words (yeah, othah than "wicked") and expressions commonly used. Hope I can find someone that does all that! :)

  • Isabel McGinty

Natasha, "not fuh nuthin" you might have some luck checking with the faculty at Emerson College. They used to teach dialects as a separate course but now it seems to be part of the acting classes, but you might someone there to work with. I don't think many people say this anymore, but when my grandmother was annoyed she would say "that reeeeely frawsts my aaaasss."

  • Jeff Bellin

Okay, Natasha - pronounce this. You're at a movie theater before the film and you say at the refreshment stand:

"I'll have a lodge, hawt budded pupcon."
  • Natasha Hatalsky

Thanks, Isabel! I will totally do that. BTW, I was given Amelia Broome's name today. I believe she is there. Do you know anything about her? And OMG, that quote from your grandmother is priceless!

Jeff, you are so spot on! :D And wickid funny!

  • Timothy Michael McGuire

Has anyone taken acting lessons with Frank Storace? Opinion?
  • J.J. Long

Hey everyone, I just added my new voice over demo reel on my profile page.  Please check it out when you get a chance.  It was was recorded at Soundtrack Studios in Boston through CP Casting.  Thanks for your support!

  • Audrey Noone

Five minute comedy film needs an Asian actor, any age, either sex, with standard American accent.  The character is from Wisconson, so if you are able to add that element, all the better.  Filming date will be a weekend mid-January, in Sudbury, MA. Please e-mail for script to do video audition.  Non-union, no pay.  Will receive IMDB credit.

    Contact: Audrey Noone  audrey@audreynoone.com

  • Stephen Provizer

    Hi,

I have to do a video audition for a part and need a male actor to read the second part. It would probably take less than a half hour, as I would not do a laborious shoot, trying to get my parts perfectly. I would just shoot you reading your lines and only your voice will be on the final edit. I live in Brookline and would love to find someone close by. Thanks for helping!

BUSY WEEKEND!!! Self-recorded a couple of auditions for an upcoming CT based film! Saturday, Barb and I headed into NYC bright and early for an 8am call-time to shoot a "protest scene." Then on Sunday I had another shoot back home in CT for a great film called "Firefly Jar," AND got a month-long job as a PA for another large indie film being shot in CT!

    Hi everyone,

I just received an email from James Blackburn with Average Advert and was wondering if anyone had been approached by him before? Just wanting to make sure its legit!

    Thanks!

  • Natasha Hatalsky

Hi, Meghan. James Blackburn is a scammer. Here's the info email sent out from Bradley J. recently about James Blackburn:

"If your scammer radar is not functioning have it checked, because this guy can't even form a proper sentence.

    --Bradley J."

Also, James Blackburn has been confirmed as a scammer by someone else I know in the business as well.

    Best,

    Natasha

  • Noël Ramos

There is no "James Blackburn." That same email has gone out to millions of potential victims using a number of fake names, including "James Blackburn."

That message is part of what is called a "419 Scam," or Advance Fee Fraud. To read my full report, please accept a free membership to:

  • Valerie Remillard Myette

I also received that email from "James Blackburn."  It sent up a number of red flags for me but I'm glad the email mentioned where he got my info and for the posts below that alerted me to the scam!  Thanks Noel, Natasha, Bradley and Meghan for providing the heads up!

  • Meghan D. Morash

Thank you Natasha and Noel! It seemed weird to me, which is why I wanted to double check. I appreciate the feedback!

  • Kyle DeMartino

Hi everyone, so I know that Woody Allen is going to be shooting a film in RI this summer and cp casting is supposedly holding auditions for extras and such for the film. Has anyone heard when they are holding auditions? Here's a link to the article http://www.providencejournal.com/breaking-news/content/20140602-woo...

  • Bryan Barros

I just read that CP Casting is not casting extras for the new Woody Allen movie.  This info is on their website.  Does anyone know who is casting for this film?

  • Sean B. McPherson

Hi, guys! Has anyone heard of or been contacted by Jeff Cohen? I want to make sure it's not a scam. When I googled "jeff cohen" + scam, some entertainment scams came up with his name for "Modle 411," but I'm not sure.

  • Mary C. Ferrara

I was contacted by him too. I'm curious as well.

  • Lin Hult

I got it too.  Very vague and mentions educational program for kids but doesn't name it?  Not sounding too professional.

  • Kathy LaShay Berenson

Got it too. He didn't leave a signature or other professional info so I deleted.

  • Sean B. McPherson

I emailed him back and this was his reply:

I appreciate your interest in this project. This is for Admitopia.com. Basically all
that is involved is creating articles that provide tips and advice for young students who are considering entering the profession.
You have 100% authority in terms of the topics. There would be no compensation.  Your name would be displayed for the articles that you provide. In addition you would have the option for a photo and bio on the site as well. Your story would be read by THOUSANDS!

We have been overwhelmed with applications for contributing writers in terms of writing for the site. So I need to know what the initial topic that you are planning on writing about. We want to avoid duplicate articles being created.  Also when do you plan on sending the initial article? If you cannot provide this information you will no longer considered for this project now or in the future.
The last line of his email kinda rubs me the wrong way for someone who is asking for free work.
  • Lin Hult

Yeah Sean I just googled Admitopia and everything there is just as vague.  It's a site where schools find schools, idk.  And he does sound like a person that wouldn't be a pleasure to deal with if he is legit.  :-)

  • Michelle Falanga

I got the exact same email as Sean...it seemed weird because I wrote back saying I was possibly interested but then I actually called him out on the last line as well...Told him that line confused me...and that I would need to write the article when I had free time...especially since he wrote me and it is not paid work.  I do not think I am going to proceed in any way with him unless I hear anything else....seems like a scam...

  • Sean B. McPherson

Yah. Sounds a little shady. Not going to pursue.
  • Kate Avallone

Really glad for this discussion. I got the email and wasn't sure what to make of it. Thanks much to all of you who did some extra poking around! Definitely sounds sketchy.
  • Jack Burk Goldman

I just responded that I would expect to be paid for my effort. I don't expect to hear anything back from him. It reminds me of the old scam that offered to put your biography in an encyclopedia for a price.

  • Michelle Falanga

Before I saw these posts I had agreed that I would TRY to get him an article when I had time (knowing that my time is limited and valuable) but still kind of uneasy about his demands and tone in some of his email and my husband and I googled him but found little about that company.  What should I say when he asks for my article....trying to be professional and kind no matter who he is, but I don't think this is something I want to spend my limited time on this....sounds like he contacted MANY people...

  • David W. Cook

Thank you all for your due diligence. And thanks to Bradley.  NE Actor adds value to our business lives in so many ways!

  • Mark I Davies

Kyle and Bryan: CP Casting called me to audition recently for the Woody Allen movie in RI this summer, as a professor, a college president, and a man ordering breakfast. As usual, the sides were not from the movie script. No call back as yet - and I believe shooting starts in very early July.

  • Sarah Elizabeth Mitchell

Hey folks! Started a discussion called "Questionable Emails - General Tips" working from Noel's advice. If anyone can add to this thread about avoiding scammers, I think we would all benefit from pooling our knowledge via comments to that discussion thread! I know I would! Thanks, SM

  • Dean Douglas

I have learned a good rule of thumb is anyone sending an email asking for anything except a resume and headshot is suspect.

  • Mary C. Ferrara

Was contacted by Portland Models and Talent to potentially work with them. Has anyone here worked with them? How's your experience been (just want to check before I fill out paper work to send to them)?

  • Anabel Graetz

@ Mary; I've worked with them; definitely OK.
